Shilajit – the Most Powerful Anti Aging Herb

General Description

Shilajit is the most potent medicine that Ayurveda has ever discovered. It is a mineral-based medication which is found oozing from the rocky cliffs. The main source of Shilajit in India is the Himalaya, where the Shilajit is found oozing out from the cracks of rocks in the form of a red to dark brown gummy substance. Apart from India, Shilajit is also found in the mountainous areas of Nepal, Pakistan, China, Tibet and even as far as in Norway. However the Shilajit found in all these areas have different potencies, because of the differences in the rocks present in these areas.

Charaka in the Charaka Samhita mentioned that the four main constituents of the Shilajit are gold, silver, copper and iron. According to the predominant composition of the elements, he classified Shilajit as Swarna Shilajit (containing maximum gold), Rajat Shilajit (containing maximum silver), Tamra Shilajit (containing maximum copper) and Lauha Shilajit (containing maximum iron). Lauha Shilajit is black in color.

It is also the most powerful and the most readily available of all forms of Shilajit. Later, Sushrut put forward that Shilajit contains two more vital elements. They were lead and zinc. Modern research has shown that Shilajit contains more than 85 minerals in different ionic forms and also a very effective acid known as fulvic acid. Shilajit’s composition is likened to the mineral ozokerite.

Shilajit is known by many other names. In English, it is popular as Mineral Pitch and Mineral Wax. It is also popular by its Latin names Asphaltum and Black Asphaltum (referring to Lauha Shilajit). Its Sanskrit name means ‘conqueror of rocks’ (shila = rock, jit = victory). Even in Sanskrit it is known by some other derived named such as Shilajitu, Silajatu, etc.

Properties

Charaka has mentioned that the Shilajit can make the body as hard as a rock, and that there is no disease that cannot be healed with Shilajit. This supreme confidence in Shilajit from the great guru Charaka himself stems from the fact that the Shilajit is a host of several curative properties. The following are some of the important properties of Shilajit:-

(i) Shilajit is an antioxidant.

(ii) Shilajit helps to rejuvenate the nervous system.

(iii) Shilajit is one of the few medicines in Ayurveda that have been classified as a panacea. It is used in conjunction with other herbs that are induced to work deeply within the body, and hence produce greater healing effect.

(iv) Shilajit helps in the transport of materials within the body.

(v) Shilajit is a blood purifier.

(vi) Shilajit has properties in increasing the memory and overall mental capacity of the person.

(vii) Shilajit is termed as a rasayana in Ayurvedic medicine. That is, it is an adaptogen that helps to alleviate immune disorders.

Uses

Shilajit has been traditionally used in India over several centuries for a wide variety of reasons. The following are some of the most important reasons for which Shilajit has gained its worldwide renown today:-

(i) Aphrodisiacal Properties

Shilajit is known best in India for its aphrodisiacal properties. Its mention has been made even in the great Indian treatise of sex, Kama Sutra, written by Vatsyayana. Shilajit can increase libido in both men and women. It is used worldwide in the treatment of impotence, erectile dysfunction, low sperm count, premature ejaculation, etc.

(ii) Chest Problems

Medical science has proved conclusively that Shilajit is useful in treating several problems of the chest. It is used in the treatment of allergies and in the treatment of respiratory disorders such as bronchitis, colds, cough, pneumonia, emphysema, etc.

(iii) Diabetes Mellitus

Due to its properties as a panacea, Shilajit is widely used in the treatment of diabetes. It carries the sugars in the blood to their final destination. Thus sugar is not allowed to accumulate within the bloodstream. This is a very important step in the treatment of diabetes mellitus. Shilajit improves the function of the pancreas, which secretes insulin. Shilajit is useful in expelling the toxins from the body through urination. Overall, Shilajit improves the quality of blood.

(iv) Nervous Disorders

Shilajit is potent in the treatment of nervous disorders. It replenishes the wear and tear to the nervous system. Due to its adaptogen properties, it can resolve immune disorders of the body. Shilajit helps the body to recover damaged nerves comparatively fast.

(v) Obesity

Shilajit has the capacity to break down fat that has accumulated in the body. Since it can give fat metabolism the right direction, Shilajit is used in the treatment of obesity.

(vi) Vigor and Vitality

Shilajit is very popularly prescribed for its very beneficial effects in enhancing vigor and vitality. It can work deep within the nervous system and rebuild the lost energy levels. Due to this, the person feels rejuvenated. It must be noted that Shilajit does not just stimulate the body to ‘feel’ energy; it actually replenishes the energy that is lost from the system.

Correcting and Treating a Curved Manhood

Peyronie’s disease occurs at any time from adolescence onwards, but most commonly in men aged 40 to 60 years. It affects around 1 in a 100 (0.4 to 1.0 per cent) of the middle-aged male population, but some experts suggest up to 4 per cent of men aged over the age of 40 may suffer from it.

The disease causes very variable degrees of deformity and inconvenience. Some men are barely troubled by it, while others find sexual intercourse physically impossible. Many men will not require treatment, but all should seek prompt medical advice.

The symptoms are:

- A lump within the shaft of the penis: this can slowly develop over several months and frequently takes 12 to 18 months to reach its full extent.

- Pain in the shaft of the penis: two-thirds of men with Peyronie’s disease will experience pain in the penis. In most cases, it will gradually settle down and disappear without treatment in a few months.

- Abnormal angulations of the erect penis (‘bent’ penis): during the 12 to 18 months that the plaque or lump is developing, the deformity of the erect penis can change – 30 to 40 per cent get worse, 10 to 20 per cent get better and 50 per cent remain the same.

Some men will develop varying degrees of erectile dysfunction (impotence) as a consequence of Peyronie’s disease. This can vary from a complete inability to attain and/or maintain an erection adequate for satisfactory sexual experience to a slight reduction in penile rigidity.

When the penis becomes erect, the inner tubes (corpora cavernosa) inflate, filling the space within the tunica albuginea, making it more rigid. In Peyronie’s disease, tough, fibrous plaques spontaneously appear within the tunica albuginea, and are felt as tender lumps. When the penis becomes erect, it inflates unevenly and tends to bend around the plaque, causing the characteristic deformed appearance of Peyronie’s disease.

One in three men with Peyronie’s have pain or penile bending when erect as their principal symptom. Experts are not certain why some men get Peyronie’s disease and others do not. Several factors might be involved, including:

- Genetics

- Injury

- Circulatory disorders

- Diabetes

The good news is that correction for Peyronie’s disease is available and only in very few cases involves surgery. Most of the times the body will cure itself (to some extent at least), so doctors recommend a period of 8 to 12 month before surgery.

Treatment of Peyronie’s disease includes:

- Drug therapy, which is very controversial because it can have numerous side effects and has not yet been proven very effective.

- Extracorporeal shockwave therapy, where shockwaves are directed at penile plaques and can significantly reduce deformities in established, stable disease;

- Surgery, which is the last resort because of extreme risk of scars, injuries, infections etc

- Some times penis stretchers may be used to reduce the curvature of the penis. Penis traction devices will not damage your penis further more, but in some cases they may have only limited effect on correcting penile curvature.

The Dangers of Low Cholesterol

In today’s society, cholesterol is considered a villain. Everyone “knows” that high cholesterol “causes” heart disease. TV ads warn us that “diet and exercise may not be enough,” and drugs are increasingly prescribed to reduce cholesterol levels.

You may think you know what the problem of cholesterol is all about, but before you jump on the anti-cholesterol bandwagon, consider these studies:

* A 3 year study on 11,500 patients showed that low cholesterol resulted in increased lung cancer, increase in other cancers, higher risk of cardiac death, erectile dysfunction and infertility, and a loss of memory and mental focus. (European Heart Journal 1997, 18, 52-59)

* A Swedish researcher discovered that individuals with low cholesterol suffer from frequent and severe infections, while individuals with high cholesterol had a lower mortality than the average population. (Uffe Ravnskov, MD, PhD, independent researcher Magle Stora Kyrkogata 9, S-223250 Lund, Sweden)

* A 30 years follow-up on one of the original studies linking cholesterol and heart disease showed no correlation between high cholesterol and mortality, but did show a correlation between low cholesterol and mortality. Death rates from coronary heart disease increased 14% for every 1 mg/dl drop in total cholesterol per year

(Anderson KM. Cholesterol and Mortality, 30 years of Follow-up from the Framingham study. JAMA 1987 Apr 24;257(16):2176-80)

* A paper in the Journal of Cardiac Failure on an analysis of 1,134 patients with heart disease showed that low cholesterol was associated with worse outcomes in heart failure patients and impaired survival rates. It also showed that elevated cholesterol was not associated with hypertension, diabetes or coronary heart disease.

(Horwich TB. Et.al. Low Serum Total Cholesterol is Associated with Marked Increase in Mortality in Advanced Heart Failure. J Card. Fail. 2002 Aug;8(4):216-214)

High cholesterol is a “disease” that was created by the pharmaceutical industry in order to sell more cholesterol-lowering drugs, i.e., statins. These drugs have a high profit margin, so the lab ranges for cholesterol have been altered over the last 7-10 years so that more people will show up as having “high” cholesterol and be persuaded to take medications.

Normal (i.e., non-pathological) cholesterol ranges should be 175 to 275, with people with Blood Type O running at the higher end of this spectrum because of the way their body utilizes protein. Since, these are the pathological ranges, levels above or below these values mean the body is seriously imbalanced and probably diseased.

However, for optimal health, one should be in the middle third of this range. So healthy cholesterol should be between 208 and 242. Oddly enough people with these perfectly normal and healthy cholesterol ranges are being encouraged to take drugs to reduce their cholesterol to unhealthy low levels.

This is particularly bad considering that statins have a lot of potentially dangerous side effects. The common side effects of the statins include upset stomach, headache, fatigue, skin rash, memory loss, difficulty concentrating, erectile dysfunction, difficulty sleeping, nightmares and peripheral neuropathy. Another common side effect is liver damage.

Statins deplete CoQ10, an important co-enzyme for cardiac health. Since the real cause of heart disease is oxidative damage and inflammation, lowering CoQ10 can actually increase your risk of dying of heart disease.

A very serious side effect of statins is their tendency to cause inflammation of the muscles and create muscle damage. The inflammation makes the muscles painful. If the inflammation is severe enough, the cells in the inflamed muscle tissue may disintegrate (a process called rhabdomyolysis). They then release myoglobin, a protein present in very large amounts within the muscle cells, into the blood. The myoglobin reaches the kidneys, damages them and may even cause them to fail. In some cases, the kidneys may recover; however the damage to the kidneys from the myoglobin may be permanent and necessitate lifelong kidney dialysis.

So, before you take statin drugs to reduce your cholesterol, do a little research on the dangers of low cholesterol. There are other ways of protecting yourself from heart disease that are much more effective.

Stay Relaxed to Stay Sexually Fit

Ever heard of the phrase, “Work is god”, it is very appropriately said by a prudent person. Some people “Work to Live” whereas there are others who “Live to Work”, for them work is top most priority and everything else comes after it. However, in the current scenario, where globalization has taken place in most of the industries, work pressure has increased due to tuff competition. Employees have to improve in terms of quality of their work and have to meet difficult deadlines in order to remain in the competition.
As a result most employees of the corporate world lead a highly stressful life which, however, may cause some health problems which are inevitable considering the amount of stress and pressure involved, not only in office but in home as well. When a person thinks of performing better rather then focusing on the task, he is liable to fail in that task no matter if he is indulging in a project work or sexual activity, for that matter. Studies have shown that ED or erectile dysfunction can be due to psychological causes like anxiety. In other words a person too anxious to perform better while having sexual intercourse may fail even to get a hard and erect penis.
Such an individual must practice relaxation techniques like meditation in order to calm his mind and eliminate all fears pertaining to sexual performance. For it, a relaxed, stress free and happy state of mind is necessary to combat afflictions such as ED. This was a remedy when the cause is psychological in nature however, one must go for drugs like Viagra when he is dealing with a physical cause of ED like nerve damage, diabetes or an artery blockage. Viagra is an FDA approved drug which enables an ED patient to get proper erection, just few hours after its consumption.
Viagra works by relaxing muscles in penile area thereby facilitating rock hard penis. Due to emergence of other drugs in the anti-impotence market the price of viagra have came down, which is good for lower middle class people who were unable to buy viagra in past due to its hefty price. Many cheap viagra pharmacies sell it at affordable prices in your vicinity. Apart from this, one can also buy viagra online and can change his sex life just at a click of a mouse button.
