Could I have bipolar disorder?

I am a teenager, 17, and sometimes I feel like I could have bipolar disorder. I am very, very often fatigued, more than any of my friends, even though I am sure I get more sleep than them. I thought this could mean I had diabetes, but I had a blood test done, and no problems showed up. Lately though I have been EXTREMELY irritable. Its very frustrating because everything is getting on my nerves, so I am always in a bad mood, and I dont want to be. I always get at least seven hours of sleep and usually much more than that. My parents are very against medication, and I am so happy a lot of the time, they would be against taking me to a shrink I think. But this almost makes me think I could be bipolar even more. If it sounds like I really could be bipolar, I will bring it up with my parents.

I don’t think it sounds like you have bipolor disorder. To be honest more than anthing it sounds to me like you could have a problem with your thyroid.
Visit your doctor for a check up and discuss how you are feeling with them or go to a reputable naturopath for a more holistic approch.

If you are bipolar you have extreme mood changes. From euphoria (mania ) to depression.
What you’re describing looks more like depression. Maybe you could find a hobby or something? I myself struggle with mild depression for 3 years now and I don’t plan on going to the psychiatrist. Maybe try herbal medicine, St. Johns Worth is a good natural antidepressant.

I think that you might just be going through being a teenager. Alot of the time I feel the same way. Irritable, grumpy, tired. It’s all just part of growing up, in my opinion. You might also have a slight case of depression, which you can help by finding something to do. A hobby, a job, a gym membership. Something to get your mind off of the things that are bothering you. It works! I swear. Hope I helped?

You really sound like you’re depressed. Bipolar does have periods of depression, but also has abrupt switches to happiness and extreme activity. If you have any endocrine problem, it might be that your thyroid is underactive, but that’s a relatively rare condition.

bipolar is extreme ups and downs. very high energy one minute, day week then very lack of energy just as often. you can be happy one mintue and bite someone’s head off another. you can be depressed for no reason, lose interest in your favorite activities. unexplainable uncontrolled outburts that are not deserved. from what you say, i don’t see bipolar. it could be physical. you could be lacking in certain nutrients or hormones. but else did they test for in the blood test? i would recommend getting a thorough blood test and rule out any deficiencies.

There are different types of bipolar disorder and only a doctor or psychiatrist is qualified to diagnose you. Talk to a school nurse or counselor, family doctor, etc. and let them know what’s going on. Your parents may not like meds but they are going to hate you having severe psychosis even more. If something is going on, you need to know now before you start having episodes. Take it from someone who does have bipolar disorder – get it checked out.
