Are you sure this person is not dead? My brother has type 2 and when he was diagnosed at 64 he was lucky to be alive and was in intensive care. I would think you reading is wrong.

Time to talk to the doctor. Your friend has just passed into the danger zone. But if he or she has a glucometer they should know that the number are high and have a protoccol of what to do when they get a high number reading.

My husband has type 2 diabetes and had levels that high for a while. His doctor rang him when he saw the results and asked my husband to come to the doctor’s immediately. With medication his levesl are now under control.
Here are the main symptoms to look for:
Feeling thirsty.
Having to urinate more than usual.
Feeling more hungry than usual.
Losing weight without trying to.
Feeling very tired.

Here are the more serious ones:
lots of infections and cuts and bruises that heal slowly;
blurred vision;
tingling or numbness in your hands or feet;
lots of skin, gum, or bladder infections.

This is a high blood sugar level. Just check with ur friend regarding the test like when he/she has taken the test?, Is a chemist/doctor who has taken the test?, What has he taken before the test?,When did he ate last before the test?.
These all depends on the value.

when i was diagnosed with diabetes my blood sugar was in the 500 range, you can bring this down almost overnite thu diet and medication, they need immediate medical attention, and then do what the rest of us diabetics do, read labels and watch our sugar and carbohydrate intake, they can buy diabetic medications at walmart or sam's club for $4 a month with a perception, no insurance require. go to walmart.com for a list and details

I agree with previous comments – 500 is far too high. It’s time to talk to the doctor or go to the hospital. IMMEDIATELY.

Just wondering if perhaps she’s a misdiagnosed type 1, as it’s unusual for a type 2 to get THAT high without some serious warning over a LONG time!

Has she re-tested, after washing her hands? Many a scary high number has been caused by having something sugary on the fingers!

this is very dangerous,she have to go to her doctor immediatly,500mg/dl is very high,maximum fasting blood sugar is 120mg/dl&after meals by 2 hours as a maximum 140-160mg/dl,so after seeing all these values have she to concern?

Blood sugar level should run between 75 – 100. Do like the first one to comment, get her some insulin or call an ambulance now. Each moment spent with BS that high is risking her sight and internal organ damage.
