I wonder if this was just because your feet had got so cold? If the numbness has gone now then it is unlikely to be nerve damage. You seem to be very young to have developed nerve damage, but if you are not keeping control of your diabetes it is possible. BUT, that does not mean a decline is inevitable! You may need to consider controlling your diabetes to prevent it controlling you?
Your nurse or doctor should be able to help you understand more about your condition, it does not mean you can never have things you like, but you need to learn how you can have things you like by choosing the right time and timing your insulin to be at the right dose, etc.
Nerve damage means that blood supply has not reached the nerve for some time and then can cause permanent damage, but sometimes if it is short term it can recover. Often you will have had pins and needles, or you may notice some numbness. If the numbness is still there then go and see your doctor, but please do not panic, it does not mean the worst!
All the best.
References :
Sounds like it to me. If I were you, I would take this as a warning to straighten up. Taking care of diabetes is pretty important if you want to keep your body parts.
References :
It's very possible and you need to take care of yourself! You're only 13 and this disease just progresses when you aren't doing what u are supposed to be doing. Look up Neuropathy and read about it.
