The DR said my mom could have nerve damage in her fingers from diabetes and that it may not be reversable…?

Her index finger and baby finger have been numb for 2 weeks. She can hardley use them. The dr said today he thinks it could be nerve damage from her diabetes, and it may not be reversable. Anyone know anything about this? She has had diabetes for a couple years, and her blood sugar is usually about 200, and has went alot higher at times but usually stays at about 200.

Yes, this is a common problem with those who have diabetes.

From here on, she needs to pay special attention to where she places her hands. It’s like those old cases of leprosy where you can further damage your extremities because your nerve endings aren’t functioning to alert you that your hand is touching something damaging (burns, etc.).

Yes diabetes causes nerve damage. 200 is kinda high so she really needs to watch what she eats and drinks. and make sure she gets exercise even if it’s a little bit, she also needs to be careful with her hands.
