Diabetes not always caused by excess weight
DEAR DR. GOTT: Can you please discuss lifestyle risks for diabetes other than weight? I have three friends who are thin and have all developed type 2 diabetes.

I’m a 22 year old female who has nearly all of the classic symptoms of type-1 Diabetes (fatigue, extreme thirst, frequent urination, etc.) I have always heard that those that suspect that they have type-1 Diabetes usually experience unintentional weight loss. However, I’m experiencing unintentional weight gain! I’ve gained around 10 pounds, which is strange. Although I’m already overweight (which I know puts me at risk), I’m a vegetarian and I eat and exercise moderately; it’s not like I’m constantly snacking or eating mostly unhealthy things. Any thoughts, yahoo community?
I have type 1 diabetes, I was just diagnosed last year when I was 17. I want to lose about 25 pounds – my Dr. said that will help with increasing my insulin sensitivity, even though I am not actually “overweight”, but if I lose 25-30 pounds I will still be in the healthy weight range.
It’s so hard! How do I do this?!? It seems if I exercise then my blood sugar drops too low, if I eat a “healthy” meal of salad/rice & beans, my blood sugar goes up too high, and I, after cutting calories by about 300 a day and exercising almost an hour a day (5 days a week) have lost only 2 pounds in 2 months! It’s getting so depressing. Help?
I’m a 22 year old male 6’5 330 lbs (most of it fat). and i have hi blood pressure and high cholesterol, as well as diabetes. Over the next year i have a goal to loose 75 lbs of my fat and keep on and build muscle. I have a diet plan that was given to me by an endocrinologist, and i’m swimming about 45 minutes to an hour every day. However, i would also like to utilize the fat that i have on me currently to build muscle as i loose weight. I have a gym membership and access to free weight as well as standard weight machines. My legs are pretty strong and only need to be toned, but my upper body and core muscles are lacking (and i have back problems). Can anyone tell me of a good weight lifting or exercise program that would be able to help me? (it needs to be a free do it yourself program, nothing like P90X or any thing i would have to purchase or buy a membership to learn.
Thank you for any advice in advance.
My bezzie has diabeties and she is get a bit fat and she wants to know how to loose weight, but if she does to much exercise her blood sugars go low and has to eat chocolate, which is filled with sugars and fat she has just burned off. Please help her!
