I would like info on controlling diabetes when medication, exercise and diet aren’t working?

I am really trying to control my diabetes without medication what can I do to maintain control

Well, ShellythePoet,
Not all of us can do that. Everyone seems to have heard of someone who does that, but no one seems to know this person. I did see a woman on a TV show who does this by studying very hard and eating only the food that meets her exact needs. Diet is an important part of treating diabetes, so keep with it. See a nutritionist who specializes in diabetes for help in your goals. But while you are working on this, take the medicine the doctor recommends, test your blood sugar as often as your doctor or diabetes educator recommends, and do things you love.

there are lots of food supplements now a days to control diabetes. here in the philippines we have herbal capsules for diabetes. it isnt a medication, just a food supplement. they can be capsules or in a form of tea bags.. and it’s not very expensive too.

Personally, I think that you should utilize everything available to you to help control your diabetes. If that means using medication, then use it. But you have to be faithful with your diet. Do you count calories and carbs? Do you exercise enough. That will help with the sugar and encourage the body to utilize the produced insulin to convert sugar to energy. Cut out all junk, non nutritional foods. The american diet depends on that stuff and we don’t need it. Eat healthy, small meals and exercise. Even if you use meds, that should help you.

If diet, exercise and medication are not working you need to see your doctor or dietitian first. The goal of control without medication is good, but control must come first. The complications of poor control will make the diabetes seem like such a minor aliment. Once you achieve control you can work on the amount of exercise and the balance of your diet to reduce your need for medication. But all times, Keep those blood sugar readings in the accepted range!
